In need of some local produce, bread, meats, or even beers?

The Acton Outdoor Market, formerly known as the Farmers' Market, is opening for the season on June 1 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. The market will remain open each Thursday until Oct. 5 in its new location at Prospect Park.

Vendors will include Wellington Beer Company, Country Crops, and Mandi’s Breads, Bagels, and Beyond. Previous markets have included arts and crafts, jewelry, and live performances from local musicians. Currently, there are 20 vendors confirmed for the market, with many more who have registered for later in the season.

“We changed the name from Farmers' Market to Outdoor Market so that we can offer a greater selection of various foods, craftspeople and artisan vendors,” Matthew Galliford, co-ordinator of the Downtown Acton Business Improvement Area, said in an email.

“We are very proactive in supporting our local arts and culture. There is even a booth being sponsored by Acton Optical to showcase young artists and entrepreneurs.”

Local businesses that don't take part in the market are also being featured by supplying marketing materials like flyers, menus, or brochures for attendees to pick up and review.

The market has shifted areas from the previous location on Willow Street to down the road at Prospect Park as a way to give shoppers a better sense of nature and community, Galliford said. The park has three baseball diamonds, a playground, splash pad, and boating area right on Fairy Lake.

“We are bringing the market to the people, and looking to attract a greater number of people to the market,” Galliford noted.

Visitors can find more information on the Acton Outdoor Market on the Downtown Acton website.
