Earth Week is fast approaching, and one of the local events planned to mark the occasion is going to the birds - literally.

The Bird-Friendly Symposium is set for Thursday, April 25. Bird lovers can flock to the Mold-Masters SportsPlex’s Alcott Room at 6:30 p.m. to take part.

Nature Canada’s Bird-Friendly City organizer Autumn Jordan will be delivering a keynote chat about the national importance of bird-friendly municipalities.

Library staff members will also be there to talk about birding basics, as well as relevant resources like the Hiking the Hills Backpack Kits. New to the kits are a pair of binoculars. They'll have books, backyard explorer kits and park passes on hand too. Be sure to bring your library card.

Networking, discussion and a history of Halton Hills as a bird-friendly community will round out the gathering. The municipality is the 14th to receive a bird-friendly certification from Nature Canada.

The event is free and anyone who wants to attend can register on HaltonHillsNature.com.
