The downtown Georgetown business community has lost one of its own.

Steve Longmead, one of the founding owners of The Hooded Goblin, died on Monday (April 8).

On Thursday evening, the tabletop gaming and geek culture shop announced his passing in a touching tribute on its social media platforms, along with a video clip of Longmead riding his bike into the shop while wearing a Boston Bruins jersey.

“He was the type of guy who would give you the shirt off his back,” Longmead’s cousin and business partner Andrew Cairo told HaltonHillsToday. “No matter how much he had on his plate, he would always make time for his customers.”

Longmead suffered a stroke several months ago, which was complicated by a blood clot that ended his life.

The Hooded Goblin has been around Georgetown for about a decade, first opening its doors at 54 Mill St. At its current location on Main Street South, the business expanded to include a restaurant and a record shop.

A service will be held on Monday, April 15 at 10:30 a.m. in St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church (940 N Park Dr., Brampton). Longmead will be interred at Greenwood Cemetery in Georgetown.

“The family thought it would be sweet to have him buried here because he loved this town,” Cairo said.

A celebration of life will then take place at 1 p.m. at The Hooded Goblin. A Magic: The Gathering mat will be available for the general public to write messages of tribute. A Blood Bowl mat will also be signed by the store’s league.

The store trophy will be renamed the Steve Longmead trophy.
