It’s that time of year again when the Rotary Club of Acton throws its annual spring fundraiser.

Lead organizer Alison Macintosh and her committee will kick things off with a multi-day online auction starting on April 19.

But this year, they're also trying something a little different.

“We have opted to do a dinner dance with a DJ (Sammy Beatz) and a sit-down dinner by our Chef Dale (McCarthy) of the Everton Academy of Culinary Arts,” said Nancy Wilkes, who sits on the organizing committee.

Doors to the Night on the Town Dinner & Dance will open at 6:30 p.m. on May 3. Bidding in the online auction will conclude at 9 p.m. the same evening, followed by a draw for a seven-night stay in Christ Church, Barbados.

Tickets for the draw are $25 for one or $100 for five, while admission for the dinner and dance is $65. All tickets can be purchased online or in person at Acton Optical.

Half of all proceeds will go to the Rotary Club and its various causes like local food banks, supporting the Acton Town Hall Centre and sending deserving children to Disney World.

The rest will go to the Townsend Smith Foundation’s campaign to bring a hospice to north Halton.

“It's a very worthy cause, in our opinion, and it is much-needed in north Halton,” said Wilkes, who lost a sister. “That's the personal drive for me, and I think anybody who has had any involvement with a hospice in the later life of loved ones would give everything they could to a hospice."
