Acton driver charged with impaired following RIDE check

An Acton resident has been charged with impaired driving following a RIDE check stop in the area of Queen Street and Longfield Road on Monday.

A news release from Halton Regional Police states that Jamie Nicholls, 42, stands charged with blood alcohol concentration 80mgs or more, within two hours.

The public is reminded that driving while impaired is a crime in progress. Anyone who observes a suspected impaired driver is urged to 9-1-1 immediately.

Signs of impaired driving include:
    •    Driving unreasonably fast, slow or at an inconsistent speed
    •    Drifting in and out of lanes
    •    Tailgating and changing lanes frequently
    •    Making exceptionally wide turns
    •    Changing lanes or passing without sufficient clearance
    •    Overshooting or stopping well before stop signs or stop lights
    •    Disregarding signals and lights
    •    Approaching signals or leaving intersections too quickly or slowly
    •    Driving without headlights, failing to lower high beams or leaving turn signals on
    •    Driving with windows open in cold or inclement weather.
